Jenna Smart, who has coached at Iowa Central Community College the last three years, has been hired as an assistant softball coach at Missouri Southern.
Smart, a 2006 graduate of Delta State (Miss.), compiled a 33-18 record with the Lady Statesmen, and she ranks in the top 10 in every career pitching category. Delta State went 160-77 record during her career.
She served as a graduate assistant at Delta State before going to Iowa Central where she served as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. Iowa Central finished 55-10 in 2010, 45-13 in 2011 and 51-9 in 2012. The pitching staff ERA was 1.59 in 2010, 2.88 in 2011 and 1.89 this spring.
“Jenna will make an immediate impact, having pitched herself, and being successful at the Division II level will give her instant credibility with our athletes,” Missouri Southern coach Bill Gray said in a press release. “Her energy for the game and pitching will have an immediate impact on our pitching staff and team.”
“Coach Gray has a lot of success in his career and I am excited to learn from him,” Said Smart, a native of Morris, Ill. “I hope to bring energy to the program. I am a very competitive and energetic person, and I am excited to meet the girls and hit the ground running this fall.”
