McAuley's Foley signs for track at MSSU

McAuley Catholic Warriors senior track and field athlete Victoria Foley made her college choice known Wednesday by signing with the Missouri Southern Lions.

However, her work at McAuley isn’t complete.

Foley won the discus at the Class 1 MSHSAA Track and Field Championships in Jefferson City as a junior and will try to be the first athlete in McAuley history to win back-to-back titles this spring.

“It was kind of unbelievable,” Foley said of winning state last year. “That would be really nice to win again.”

Also a state qualifier in the shot put, Foley hopes to earn a medal in the event this year.

McAuley track and field coach Brandon Welsh is expecting another successful season from Foley. He also said she has her eyes on the state meet record in the discus after surpassing the mark at the conference meet last season.

“Just looking at her now, she has gotten bigger and stronger,” Welsh said.

“She wants that state record and knows she can only get it at the state meet.”

At Missouri Southern, Foley will look to learn all of the throwing events after competing in only the discus and shot put in high school.

“I think she’s going to do really well,” Welsh said. “I think they’re going to have a lot of fun with her.”
