Missouri Southern’s 2013 football schedule will include games against four of the MIAA’s top five finishers from last season.
The Lions will have to contend with defending conference champion Missouri Western, as well as Northwest Missouri State, Pittsburg State and Lindenwood. Those four teams combined for a 37-12 record last year.
However, Missouri Southern coach Daryl Daye said he expects every week in the MIAA to be competitive.
“It’s like the SEC of Division II,” Daye said. “You don’t get a break from week to week.”
The Lions, who are coming off a 6-5 season, open the 2013 schedule Thursday, Sept. 5 against Central Oklahoma.
Southern’s 2013 schedule also includes two MIAA TV games with the Lions traveling to Northeastern State on Sept. 14 and hosting Lincoln on Sept. 21. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 2:37 p.m.
Missouri Southern’s homecoming game will be Nov. 2 against Lindenwood. Senior Day will be a nonconference game against Lindenwood-Belleville on Nov. 9..
Other home games will be Oct. 5 against Central Missouri and Oct. 19 against Missouri Western.
The annual Sonic Miners Bowl will be Nov. 16 at Pittsburg State’s Carnie Smith Stadium.
It will be the second year in the conference for Central Oklahoma, Northeastern State and Lindenwood.
“We have a better understanding of what we’ll be facing week to week,” Daye said. “There are no off weeks in the MIAA.”
