PSO says 48,000-plus without power in Tulsa County

TULSA, Okla. — Utility officials say more than 48,000 homes and businesses are still without power in Tulsa County, about a day after a violent storm system tore through the area.

The number’s been whittled from the nearly 100,000 customers who didn’t have power in the area after Wednesday’s storm.

Public Service Co. of Oklahoma estimates that it could be until Sunday until power is restored to about 95 percent of customers — but it also said that many customers will likely have electricity much sooner.

The storm packed 80 mph wind gusts and snapped decades-old trees and power lines. Meteorologists later classified it as a rare derecho because of the widespread wind damage it caused.

Forecasters say another round of storms could clip the same area either late Thursday or early Friday.
