OKLAHOMA CITY —
The state House has honored Oklahoma band Red Dirt Rangers for its members’ contribution to Oklahoma life and arts.
Band members Brad Piccolo, John Cooper and Ben Han appeared before the House Monday — 25 years after the band came together in Stillwater.
The group has led the formation of so-called “Red Dirt” music, named for Oklahoma’s iron-stained soil. The genre is described as a combination of country, folk and rock music.
The House honored the band for keeping their home in Oklahoma even after several albums and international performances. Republican Rep. Lee Denney of Cushing says the Red Dirt Rangers have held an annual children’s concert in Oklahoma City for two decades and have organized mentorship programs for young musicians.
