Billy Graham responding well to treatment

DURHAM, N.C. — Evangelist Billy Graham is resting comfortably in stable condition while being treated for bronchitis at a hospital in Asheville, N.C., his evangelistic association said Monday morning.

Graham, 93, was admitted to Mission Hospital early Sunday for treatment of a lung infection. He has been responding well to treatment, according to pulmonologist David Pucci.

Graham was feeling well enough to watch the London Olympics’ closing ceremony from his hospital bed, said his spokesman, A. Larry Ross.

“The ceremony brought back fond memories of various crusades Mr. Graham held in the UK and in Rio de Janeiro, the host city for the next Summer Olympics, over seven decades of public ministry,” Ross said in a statement.

Earlier Sunday, Graham watched on television as his grandson, Will Graham, conducted services at a church in Spartanburg, S.C. He had lunch with his daughter, Gigi, and a grandchild Sunday afternoon, according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Charlotte, N.C.

No discharge date has been set, the association said on its website, adding: “But physicians are hopeful Mr. Graham will continue his rapid rate of recovery and will be able to return home soon.”

Graham was hospitalized last November for treatment of pneumonia. After his discharge, he resumed a physical therapy program and continued to work on a book about his life in the ministry, the association said.
