Information on shelters, Red Cross and other assistance available

The following is a list of services available for people who have been affected by the storms, as well as pertinent phone numbers and information about utilities.

Shelters

n In Newton County, a Red Cross shelter has been established at Calvary Baptist Church, 2650 Oakridge Extension, Neosho.

n In Ottawa County, Okla., a Red Cross shelter has been established at the First Christian Church, 2424 N. Main St., Miami.

n In Missouri, the Red Cross can be reached by calling (866) 221-8238.

n In Oklahoma, the Red Cross can be reached by calling (918) 831-1109.

n Those who want to check on the condition

of a loved one may visit the Red Cross Web site at www.redcross.org and click on the “Register as safe and well” link or call (800) GET-INFO.

Power outages

n As of Sunday afternoon, between 7,000 and 8,000 customers of New-Mac Electric Cooperative were still without power, according to Mark Rakes, a cooperative spokesman. Some, but not all, of those customers should expect to be without power for seven to 10 days. Prolonged outages should be expected in areas that include Spring City and Spurgeon, he said.
