GALENA, Kan. — Work continues on preparing the city swimming pool for opening, the Galena City Council learned this week.
Councilman Darrell Shoemaker said after the meeting that the city may be able to open the pool by the end of June. He reported during the meeting that the city had received donations totaling $39,450 toward repairing and replacing equipment needed to open the pool for the season.
Shoemaker said donations for the pool include those from American Bank, Crossland Construction Co., Ed Burlingame, Steve and Cheryl Vogel, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
The council also approved contacting Empire District Electric Co. about providing lights for the pool.
“We’ve got the paint for the pool, and we’re really moving forward,” said Mayor Dale Oglesby.
In other business Tuesday, the council:
Approved a proposal from Blue Cross Blue Shield to be the city’s health-insurance provider.
Approved spending $36,968 for a water pump and up to $6,000 on a sewer pump.
Approved a bid of $3,141 for an air-conditioning unit for the Fire Department.
