PITTSBURG, Kan. — Mechanical failure in a water heater led to a fire Saturday that destroyed a camper and damaged a truck at a home in Pittsburg.
A fire broke out at 12:23 p.m. in a camper at 1309 E. Fourth St. in Pittsburg, according to Battalion Chief Brad Hill with the Pittsburg Fire Department. The camper’s owner, Lonzo Myers, was at home when the fire occurred. Hill said the camper was destroyed, and the fire also damaged Myers’ pickup truck. Eight members of the Pittsburg Fire Department had the blaze contained by 12:45 p.m., Hill said.
Hill also said firefighters responded to an unrelated fire at 1:23 p.m. in a garage in Pittsburg.
The cause is undetermined, but the fire caused heavy damage to a garage at 913 W. Third St. in Pittsburg. Hill said no damage was reported to the home of Christine Grosstethan. Ten firefighters had the blaze under control by 1:53 p.m., Hill said.
