A $20 million grant from the Economic Development Administration, announced at Joplin's tornado anniversary event today, will enable the 20th Street Project and the building of a new Joplin Public Library to move forward.

Ground is expected to be broken in six months.

David Wallace, chief executive officer of Wallace Bajjali Development Partners, Joplin's contracted master developer, said "this was the final piece of capital'' needed to go forward with the $100 million project.

In addition to the library, the development will have a theater complex, a retail and mixed-use plaza and a grocery store.

The announcement was made by Matt Erskine, deputy assistant secretary for economic development with the U.S. Economic Development Administration, during today's anniversary ceremony at Cunningham Park.
