Marilyn Jacobs, nurse practitioner, will be guest speaker at the regular second Tuesday "55+ Lunch Bunch" from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 501 W. Fourth St.
Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. This month's theme is "What Shape Are You In?"
Music will be provided by Gloria Sanborn, piano, and Pete Havely, banjo.
Members and guests are encouraged to wear their sweats.
Ted Gillespie, Joplin, will be guest speaker at 11 a.m. Sunday at Unity Church of Joplin, 2902 E. 20th St.
Gillespie will speak on "Faith, Fear and Peter: The Choice is Ours." He is the director of LifeSupport Ministries which has a support group for people with depression or bi-polar depression, and is a mental health advocate.
Adult Sunday school meets at 10 a.m. and children's Sunday school is held during the 11 a.m. service.

"Make Mine Southern," a southern gospel concert, will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday at Forest Park Baptist Church, Seventh Street and Range Line Road.
The event will be a time of inspiration and music. Performing are The Missourians, Jim Setser, The Revelators and the Beard family.
Admission is free.
An open gym is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Fridays at South Joplin Christian Church, 1901 S. Pearl Ave.
Activities take place in the youth center, located south of the church. The weekly event features food, games and fellowship. A birthday party with cake is held on the last Friday of the month.
The event is open to the public of all ages.
Bethany Presbyterian Church, 1930 Virginia, invites the Carl Junction, Webb City and Joplin communities to join a new Beginnings program.
The program is for persons who want to learn more about the Christian faith. Each session includes a presentation about basic Christian beliefs and small discussion groups. The sessions will be two hours in length for 12 weeks.
The first two-hour session, designed for people who are free during the day, begins at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
The second session, designed with both the families and individual adults in mind, begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16. The evening session includes a meal and free childcare is offered. The meal and program are offered without cost to guests.

The new building, located three-quarters of a mile north of Casey's at the Business 71 Carterville exit, has 27,000 square-feet of space.
Sunday services will begin at 8:45 a.m. with a coffee/fellowship; Bible classes at 9 a.m.; and a worship celebration at 10 a.m.
The Terry Kelley Band will perform Sunday at the First Assembly of God, 1605 Baker Blvd.
The group will perform during the 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. services.

Pastor Doris Schlessman from Pineville United Methodist Church will speak at the monthly church service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bunker Hill Community Building.
Schlessman will present the sermon and the Pineville United Methodist Church Choir will perform its Christmas Cantata during the service. There will be refreshments and a time for fellowship after the service.
The Bunker Hill Community Building is in a former one-room school house about five miles north of Pineville on County Route W near the intersection with Missouri Highway 76.

Mount Hope Church of Christ will hold its grand opening and open house of the new facility on Sunday.
The new church is at 2830 Mount Hope Road, just west of Range Line Road.
Bible classes for all ages from pre-school through adult will meet at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. A worship service featuring a video journey and history of the congregation is slated at 10:30 a.m. After the service, the building and classrooms will be open until noon for tours.
Mount Hope Church of Christ formerly was known as Fourth and Forest Church of Christ and had been at the former location in Joplin for over 60 years.
The Christian Writers Fellowship have scheduled a meeting from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Girard Public Library, 128 W. Prairie St.
