Newly-elected president Charlie Helkey will be installed at The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA), Joplin Chapter meeting on Monday.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Joplin's Memorial Hall.

Joe Bird, former principal chief of the Cherokee Nation from 1995 to 1999, will be the guest speaker at the White River Band Cherokee Council meeting on Wednesday.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the community building, located at Seventh and Duquesne Road, Joplin. The public is welcome to attend.

A fish fry and bake sale is on tap for Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary Post 5293, 1220 S. Wall, Joplin.

The bake sale is slated to begin at 11 a.m., and the fish fry at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under twelve.

The event will feature live music and door prizes.

"Happy Heart-Health Month," a Valentine party for TOPS MO 1157 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Ulmers community room, located at the south parking lot, 1208 S. Garrison, Carthage.

A luncheon for the Joplin Women's Connection will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Holiday Inn, I-44 and Range Line, Joplin.

The luncheon theme, "(Not you typical) Business Fair 2004," will feature Julie Garris as guest speaker. She will also provide the music.

There will also be a wide array of special features available.

A Grand Lecturer school of instruction for the Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 345 will be featured on Saturday at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 505 Byers Ave., Joplin.

The meeting, slated to begin at 9 a.m., will be instructed by RWB Randy Jones, Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Missouri. Lunch will follow at 11:45 a.m.

The Joplin R/C Club, Four State Eagles, have scheduled a swap meet for Saturday. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southwest Missouri Bank community room, Seventh and Duquesne Road, Joplin.

Planes, helicopters, entire or parts, gas, glow, and electric will be available. Concessions will be offered until noon.

The table charge is $10, and sellers may set up between 7 and 9 a.m. Regular admission to the event is $5.

All proceeds will go towards field improvements at Joplin field.

The February meeting of the Joplin Area Teachers Association will begin at 10:45 a.m. today at Nettie's Restaurant (formerly Smitty's), 18th and Maiden Lane.

Imogene Dawson, president, will preside at the business meeting.

The program will feature singer/guitarist David Bennett. Hostesses will be Lucille Kennedy and Vivian St. Clair.

All retired school personnel are welcome to attend.
