From staff reports

A diverse exhibition of still life is depicted in "Interior Landscapes: the Art of Still Life" at George A. Spiva Center for the Arts, 222 W. Third St.

An opening reception for members is slated from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the center. The reception is hosted by Deli du Jour LLC, 2310 S. Main St. The exhibit will open to the public beginning Saturday and will be on display through Nov. 2.

The 12-by-12 auction will close at 6:30 p.m. today. Funds raised from the auction will benefit Spiva's operating budget.

The exhibit features a selection of work by artists Jeff Legg, whose style reflects that of a classical realist in the tradition of the great masters of 17th century Europe; Philomene Bennett, whose tabletop portraits are an investigation of color, shapes and composition; Jim Bray, whose perspective is reflected in his figurative landscapes; and selected works from the Springfield Museum of Art.

The 18 selected works from the Springfield Museum of Art feature 12 diverse artists. They are Philip Pearlstein, Billy Morrow Jackson, Wayne Thiebaud, Carolyn Brady, Karen Frey, Jane Frey, Brian Paulsen, Donald Boncela, Mignonette Y. Cheng, "Bryon" Kent Addison, Hugh C. Yorty and Jerry W. Bowman.

In addition to the new exhibit in the Main Gallery, the Regional Focus Gallery will present a new exhibit by Jim Bray.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
