A 26-year-old Joplin man is facing drug charges after police responded to a report of domestic violence at his home at 2502 S. Empire Ave., according to Joplin police Cmdr. Jim Hounschell. .

Quenton T. Cross, 2502 S. Empire Ave. was in custody Friday night in lieu of $15,000 bond at the Joplin city jail. Cross is facing two Class B felonies and a Class C felony involving the alleged possession of cocaine, marijuana and ecstasy.

Officer Bob Higginbotham was dispatched at 10:04 p.m. Thursday to investigate a report of a woman and a man screaming in the area of 25th Street and Empire Avenue, Hounschell said.

When he arrived he could hear people yelling and screaming and things being broken at 2502 S. Empire Ave., Hounschell said. The officer apparently heard a woman tell someone to get off her and he knocked on the door, but no one responded.

The woman allegedly continued screaming, and the officer forcibly entered the home and found the suspect sitting on top of the victim on the bed, holding her down, according to Hounschell.

The officer ordered the suspect to get off the victim and the suspect complied, Hounschell said. The officer arrested the suspect for misdemeanor domestic assault.

While in the home, the officer reported seeing a mirror lying on something and four or five lines of white powder, a straw and a razor blade, Hounschell said.

The officer found a plastic bag with chunks of white material that field-tested positive for cocaine, a plastic bag with an estimated two pounds of marijuana, and five ecstasy pills, Hounschell said. The officer also allegedly found $8,000 in U.S. currency, scales and plastic bags.
