Board to discuss sale of house
ANDERSON, Mo. - A bid to purchase the house built by the district's building trades classes will be among the topics discussed at the regular McDonald County Board of Education meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the high school library.
The board will also vote on an agreement between the district and the Noel City Council regarding modular classrooms being placed at Noel Elementary School.
Other items on the agenda include a property tax hearing, accepting bids on trash service, milk, bread, propane and other topics.

Church to hold lunch fund-raiser
COLUMBUS, Kan. - First United Methodist Church, 320 W. Maple St., will hold a lunch fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
A barbecue beef sandwich, baked beans, chips, cake, ice cream and drink will be offered for $4.
Take-out orders will be accepted.
Restaurant to open on Neosho square
NEOSHO, Mo. - A steak restaurant is scheduled to open its doors next month on the east side of the Neosho square.
Max's Steak House will open at 109 S. Washington St. on or around Aug. 10.
Scott and Kathy Smith said they're waiting for the completion of electrical and plumbing work before they can begin renovations and installing kitchen equipment in the 7,500-square-foot restaurant.
The Smiths hope the restaurant will help draw people to the downtown area at night when most other businesses are closed.
"The atmosphere is beautiful at night," Scott Smith said. "I don't understand why more people don't come out."
Parks department to host Luau Night
The Joplin Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a Family Luau Night from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Ewert Family Aquatic Center.
The Hawaiian event will feature music, food, games and prizes.
The event is open to all ages. The price is $5 per family member. Children under 2 are admitted free. A parent must be present with child.
Tickets are available at Joplin Memorial Hall.
Herbalife reps to hold seminar
Local Herbalife independent distributors will conduct an informational seminar on health and nutritional products offered by Herbalife International from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Joplin Board of Realtors conference room at 712 Florida Ave.
Information will be provided on Niteworks, a new dietary supplement that contains key ingredients that assist the cardiovascular system in boosting its own natural production of nitric oxide. The product was developed in conjunction with Nobel Laureate Dr. Louis Ignaro.

The Joplin Language Center will hold a picnic from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Leonard Park, East Fourth Street and Turk Avenue.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5293 will sponsor a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1220 S. Wall Ave.

Picnic offered at Rosedale pool
Rosedale Swimming Pool will have its annual family picnic from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 2320 E. 24th St.

Salvation Army offers barbecue, sale
The Salvation Army will hold a barbecue and sidewalk sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The event will take place at the Salvation Army Store at the Joplin West Plaza, Seventh Street and Maiden Lane.
The barbecue will feature hot dogs, chips and soft drinks. The "bag" sale will feature all one can fill in a bag for only $5. Persons may bring their own bag or bags will be supplied.
