Couple facingdrug chargesafter home raid
MIAMI, Okla. - A Miami couple were charged Monday with manufacturing and possession of drugs, and child endangerment.
Billy Jack "Jackie" Brown, 38, and his wife, Melissa Brown, 34, were taken into custody last week at their home in the Fairview Trailer Park at the southwest edge of Miami.
Miami police and officers of the district attorney's drug task force served a search warrant at the trailer, based on information the task force received from undercover sources.
Billy Jack Brown is under a 25-year suspended sentence he was assessed last year on drug charges in a plea bargain with the district attorney's office.
Officers reportedly found methamphetamine in the couple's trailer, plus a number of chemicals used in making the drug.
Also living in the trailer were the couple's two children, girls ages 14 and 3. The children were placed in protective custody with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
Billy Jack Brown, being held under $250,000 bond, and Melissa Brown, being held under $83,000 bond, are charged with one count each of manufacturing and one count of possession of methamphetamine, and two counts of child endangerment.
They remain in jail in lieu of bond.
Several injuredin traffic accidentson roads in area
A Grove, Okla., man was injured in a one-vehicle accident at 4:35 p.m. Monday on Missouri 90, five miles west of Jane, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Garland E. Burton, 41, the driver, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Burton lost control of his westbound pickup, which ran off the road and overturned, the patrol said.
A Diamond woman suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 3:30 p.m. Monday on Missouri 59, three miles north of Diamond, the patrol said.
Injured was Juanita G. Unruh, 36, a passenger in a vehicle driven by Michael W. Williams, 37, of Diamond.
Kevin A. Barker, 16, of Diamond, was the other driver.
Williams had stopped for a school bus unloading pupils, and the northbound truck was struck from behind by the Barker vehicle, the patrol said.
A Vinita, Okla., man suffered serious injuries in a pedestrian-vehicle accident at 10:40 a.m. Sunday on Missouri 86, three miles south of Joplin, the patrol said.Philip A. Hood, 21, the pedestrian, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin. Casey N. Schmitt, 23, of Seneca, was the driver.
The pedestrian stepped into the path of the eastbound Schmitt car, the patrol said.
A Billings man suffered moderate injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 7:20 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 54, west of Nevada, a patrol dispatcher said.
Injured was Dustin L. Lyle, 20, a passenger in a vehicle driven by Stanley W. Slee Jr., 19, of Fort Scott, Kan. Lyle was taken to Nevada Regional Medical Center. Charles M. Payne, 54, of Fort Scott, was the other driver.
The westbound Slee truck was turning right, and Payne tried to pass on the right shoulder, the patrol said.
