Nursing-home investigationreports posted on Web site

TULSA, Okla. - A nonprofit group has posted information from state investigations into complaints of abuse and neglect in nursing homes on its Web site after waiting years to get the information.

A Perfect Cause, a nursing-home watchdog group, has put the results of Department of Human Services investigations on its Web site, www.aperfectcause.org, said Wes Bledsoe, founder of A Perfect Cause.

The data show the results of investigations by DHS' Long-Term Care Investigations Unit involving abuse and neglect in nursing homes. The list covers investigations conducted from 2000 to 2003, and includes the date, type of allegation, name of the nursing home and whether the complaint was substantiated.

An analysis of the reports by the Tulsa World shows that 2,383 complaints containing 3,651 allegations of abuse or neglect were made to DHS. Of those, 37 percent were substantiated by the agency.

Bledsoe said the organization worked for three years to obtain the data.
