JOPLIN, Mo. —
Leona G. Shepherd, age 90, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Dec. 29, 2013, following a lengthy illness.
Born Leona Miksell on Oct. 12, 1923, to George and Della (Duke) Miksell in Carthage, Mo. Leona was a lifetime area resident, she was a member of Southside Community Church of God in Joplin, and was a housewife.
She married Riley Shepherd Oct. 3, 1942, in Joplin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2003.
Survivors include four daughters, Debbie Worden and her husband, David and Terri Mooneyham and her husband, Mark, both of Joplin, Sharon Birge and husband, Huie, of Webb City, and Carol Featherston and her husband, Don, of Stark City; two sons, Larry Shepherd and his wife, Margaret, of Joplin, and Danny Shepherd and his wife, Kay, of Diamond; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Faye Heckmaster, of Diamond. Leona was preceded by six brothers, Lloyd, Roy, Lawson, Chester, Bill and Ray; five sisters, Mabel, Bea, Pearl, Doris and Oma; and a granddaughter, Mona Rose preceded her in death in 2000.
Services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Billie Gibson, Minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1.
