FORT SCOTT, KS — Mrs. Horton was born Sept. 20, 1943, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Joe and Nada (Krull) Sisk. She departed this life on July 23, 2010, in Pryor, at the age of 66 years 10 months and 3 days. Sharon grew up in Fort Scott. She attended school there and graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1961. She continued her education at Pittsburgh State University where she received her Bachelors of Art degree and got her Masters in English at Northeastern State University. Sharon taught sophomore class Honors English at Claremore High School for 25 years, retiring in 2002. Sharon had lived in Pryor since 1980. She was a member of Oklahoma Education Association and National Education Association. Sharon was married to Gary Horton on April 2, 1967, in Fort Scott. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and traveling. She loved the Lord with all her heart and she was a “prayer warrior” for anyone that was in need of a prayer. Her family was very important to her and she will be missed by many who knew her. Sharon is survived by husband, Gary, of the home; daughter, Rochelle Butcher and husband, Matthew, of Locust Grove; daughter, Michelle Hamm and husband, Kevin, DO; son, Joseph Horton and wife, Rebecca, of Claremore; five grandchildren, Jamie Stockham, Mercedes Horton, Jordan Horton, Aaron Hamm and Zach Hamm; one great-grandchild, Kaysen Stockham; her mother, Nada Sisk, of Pryor; mother-in-law, Hazel Horton, of Pryor; and longtime friend (sister), Judi Mayhew, of Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Sisk; and father-in-law, Pete Horton. Funeral services for Sharon Horton, 66, Pryor, will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Pryor. Pastor Steve Parker and Dr. Mike Cox will officiate. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery, Owasso, Okla. The family received relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stephens Memorial Chapel.
