CARTHAGE, Mo. — Bonnie L. Young, age 84 of Carthage, Mo., passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Freeman West Hospital.

Bonnie was born on Feb. 5, 1928, in Lawrence County, Mo., to Theodore and Etter (Hulsy) Bates.

Bonnie was a homemaker and worked many years as a seamstress for Big Smith. She also sewed out of her home for many years. She graduated from Lockwood High School with the class of 1947. She was a former member of the Merry Mixers Extension Club. Bonnie attended the Jasper United Methodist Church. She spent the winters along with her husband in Texas, where she attended the Valley Community Church in McAllen, Texas.

Bonnie was united in marriage to Harold Bender on Nov. 29, 1953. He preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1968. She was then united in marriage to Leroy Young on July 3, 1976. He survives.

Other Survivors include, five daughters, Brenda White and husband, Tony of Sapulpa, Okla., Debbie Duncan and husband, Barry of Carthage, Mo., Winona Knight of Carthage, Mo., Patty Hoenshell and husband, Gary of Joplin, Mo., and Barbara Evans and husband, Mike of Carthage, Mo.; one sister, Verla Helms of Carthage, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Pyle; four sisters, Vera Vincent, Veda Archie, Betty Hopper and Ardeth Bates.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept.12, 2012, at Weng Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Weng Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage, Mo. Memorial contributions can be made to Jasper United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, Mo.
