JOPLIN, Mo. —
Fred E. Vickers Sr., age 88, Joplin, Mo., passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013, following an illness.
He was born April 26, 1925, in Reeds, Mo., to John and Bessie Beach Vickers.
Fred was employed at Foremost Dairy as a route driver and for Joplin Cement as a batch operator. He was a 40 year member of the Teamster Union. Fred was also a member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church.
Fred married Katherine Burtrum in 1945, at Columbus, Kan. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, David Vickers and wife, Tina, Joplin, and Bobby Vickers and wife, Wendy, Joplin; one daughter, Althea Burlison and companion, Ron, Mount Vernon, Mo.; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Fred Vickers Jr.; one daughter, Carolyn Height; one brother and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Charlie Burnett officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.
