COLUMBUS, Kan. — Helen Louise Beck, 91, of Columbus, Kan., died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. She had been a patient in the hospital for one day and a patient at Autumn Place in Columbus for two years.

She was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Fall River, Kan., the daughter of Ivan and Bertha Agnes Morris Ambler. She had been a resident of Columbus since 1963, moving from Fall River, Kan. She was a graduate of Fall River High School.

She married Elvin Howard Beck on April 2, 1940, in Eureka, Kan. He preceded her in death in July of 2005.

Mrs. Beck worked at the Bank in Fall River, the Columbus Building and Loan Company and the J.C. Penney Store in Columbus, prior to her retirement.

Membership was held in the First Christian Church in Columbus, the Ladies Quilting Group at the Church, a member of CWF and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Kay Henning and her husband, Ken, of Winfield, Kan.; two grandsons, Chad and wife, Cheri and Shawn and wife, Jessica, all of Winfield; three great-granddaughters, Taryn, Tysha and Olivia Kay; one brother, Harold Ambler and wife, Marjorie, of Springfield, Mo.; and one sister, Loyce Holmes, of Conway, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, South Highway 69 in Columbus, with the Rev. Roger Beason of the First Christian Church in Columbus, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Weakley Cemetery in New Albany, Kan. The Order of Eastern Star rites will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive their friends following the service until 8 p.m.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Retha Schultz and Connie Bennett and the staff of Autumn Place in Columbus, for the excellent care they provided to Helen.

The family has suggested expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Autumn Place in Columbus.
