JOPLIN, Mo. —
Thomas A. Berger was born in Kirkland, Wash., on April 5, 1948, and died on April 20, 2013.
He graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, Mo., in 1966. Tom was a resident of Joplin, Mo., for 35 years.
Tom was active as a 33rd Degree Mason of the Valley of Joplin Scottish Rite and a past Master of Criterion Lodge No. 586 of Alba, Mo. He served in the Air Force for four years and was a commercial real estate developer.
He graduated from Missouri Southern University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and business. Tom served on the Missouri Board of Realtors, was very active in the community, the Redings Mill Fire Department and the PBS Wine Feast. He enjoyed wine making, book binding, antiquing, refinishing furniture, his 'little' garden and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Berger; sons, Michael, Chris and Jake Berger; stepson, Jay Skodacek; stepdaughter, Lena Simon; sister and brother-in-law, Claren and Owen Holmes; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 505 South Byers, Joplin, on Saturday, May 11, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception and celebration of Tom's life.
