Robert E. "Bob" Young

AURORA, MO — Bob Young, age 81, of Aurora, Mo., passed away at 10:35 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at the Aurora Nursing Center.

He was born July 25, 1931, in Chanute, Kan., the son of Carl and Edith (Herndon) Young. Bob was a U.S. Army Veteran. He served during the Korean War and earned two Bronze Stars. While in the Army, Bob was stationed in Germany and it was there he met the love of his life, Emma Weiglein. They married Jan. 29 and again on Jan. 30, 1959, for a German and then an America wedding. She preceded him in death March 11, 2010.

Bob and his family moved to Aurora from Ottawa, Kan., in 1963. He worked as a butcher for the B&T and Ramey's Grocery Stores in Aurora and the Western Sizzlin in Monett, Mo. Bob loved his family, his country, bowling, football and "old Westerns". His travels included Alaskan and European Cruises and a number of Superbowl's, however his favorite was Germany.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his three children, Dr. Pete Young and his fiancé, Jeannie Tinsley, Thomas Young and his wife, Lane, all of Kansas City, Mo., and Susie English and her husband, Mike, of Joplin; granddaughter, Emma Christine Young; three brothers, James Young, of Olathe, Kansas, Carl Young Jr., of Independence, Kan., and Johnny Young, of Kansas City; and six sisters, Grace Young, of Fredonia, Kan., Emma Lou Dolan, of Gas City, Kan., Margaret Jane Larky, of Denton, Texas, Linda Mae Sullivan, of Junction City, Kan., and Loretta Young, of Chanute, Kan. His parents; and two sisters, Arlene Spurling and Edith Marie King, also preceded him in death.

Bob's favorite quote, "We will never get together any younger."

The Young family would like to thank the Aurora Nursing Center and Hospice Compassus for the love, respect, care and dignity they showed Bob while he was in their care and to remind everyone to please wear sunscreen.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home with visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. A celebration of life will follow at the Strike Zone Bowling Alley where he and Emma shared many fond memories.
