CARTHAGE, Mo. —
Eva Grundy Metcalf
Eva Grundy Metcalf, 96, Carthage, Mo., passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital.
Eva was born on Jan. 19, 1917, near Carthage, Mo., to the late George and Nora Wilmer Grundy. She graduated from Carthage High School and later attended business college in Carthage. She was a bookkeeper for McCormicks Grocery Store on South Main Street for many years.
She married Clayton Thomas Metcalf, Jr. on Feb. 8, 1938. Three children were born to this union. Mr. Metcalf preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 2008.
Eva was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Carthage. She also liked a good game of bridge. Eva enjoyed the outdoors, especially when tending to her flower gardens, and she rarely missed a St. Louis Cardinals game.
She is survived by her children, Clayton Thomas Tom Metcalf, III and his wife, Watha, of Golden, Mo., Melanie Jane Hicks, of Springfield, Mo. and Peter Craig Metcalf and his wife, Debbie, of Carthage; two sisters, Helen Hamer and Ellen Woolley, both of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren, Matt Metcalf, Dusty Hicks, Misty Hicks Clemens, Clay Metcalf, Craig Metcalf, and Mac Metcalf; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, in Park Cemetery with Rev. James Lee officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
Services are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
