NEOSHO, Mo. —
Ernest "Doc" Hoover, 84, entered into rest at his home on March 20, 2013, following a sudden illness.
He was born on Oct. 3, 1928, in Neosho, Mo., the son of George and Jesse (Wood) Hoover.
Doc spent most of his life in the Neosho area. He was an E-9 Master Chief in the United States Navy until his retirement after 24 years of service. He then was a teacher for Seneca School District for 16 years. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association, DAV-#11, and was Neosho's first Golden Glove Champion in the early 1940s. Doc loved gardening, fishing, and collecting coins.
Ernest Doc married Ila Jean Daugherty on Dec. 22, 1950, in Bentonville, Ark. and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Sonja Harper and husband, Reed, of Joplin, Mo., Les Hoover and wife, Sherry, of Neosho, Mike Hoover and wife, Judy, of Neosho; seven grandchildren, Barbi Trevarrow and husband, Chris, Cash Hoover, Wade Harper and wife, Kelsey, Dr. Kaitlin Hoover, M.D., Jeff Eldridge, Megan Eldridge, Lyndsey Johnston and husband, Lemmie, Shannon Peterson and husband, Bob; nine great-grandchildren. Doc is preceded in death by three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 25, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho. Ministers John Doolen and David Duncan officiating. Interment will be in Belfast Cemetery, Neosho, with full military honors. Family will receive friends from 2to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Clark Funeral Home Neosho.
