JOPLIN, Mo. —
Owen D. McWilliams, 94, of Joplin, Mo., died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at the home of his grandson, Christopher McWilliams in Joplin.
Mr. McWilliams was born Aug. 9, 1918, at Pawnee Station, Kan., the son of Loren and Elsie Trogdon McWilliams. Owen was a retired property manager. He moved to Bakersfield, Calif. in 1940, and returned to Joplin in 1973. He was raised in Cato, Kan., and attended Hepler and Girard High School.
He married Juanita Giger on Dec. 13, 1938, at Arcadia, Kan. Mrs. McWilliams preceded him in death Nov. 16, 2012.
Survivors include a daughter, Julene Embrey and her husband, Carl, of Bakersfield; a son, Richard McWilliams and his wife, Judy, of Joplin; five grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; a sister, Lois Olson; and two brothers, Lyle and Wayne McWilliams.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kan., with the Rev. Wesley McWilliams officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Cato, Kan. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bedene Chapel prior to services.
