Alfred A. Wyrick

JOPLIN, MO — Alfred A. Wyrick, age 98, of Joplin, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Promise Hospital, of San Antonio, Texas.

Born June 4, 1912, in Wyandotte, Okla., he was the son of the late John and Maudie Acres Wyrick and attended Miami, Okla. schools. He had lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Oregon. A farm operator and laborer, he formerly worked for Independent Gravel Co. Alfred enjoyed dancing and horseback riding. He enjoyed music, attended Hootenannies and played the French harp.

On April 17, 1937, he married Dorothy Brock at Miami. She preceded him in death Oct. 16, 1994.

Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Zelma Sandoval; a son, Richard Wyrick; and siblings, Simon Wyrick, Lottie Marion Wyrick, Frances Smith, Noble Service, Hester Petty, Cootie Matthieu and Fannie Williams.

Survivors include five sons, Peyton "Lee" Wyrick, of Von Army, Texas, Monroe "Sonny" Wyrick, of Joplin, Dennis Wyrick and wife, Rhonda, of Peoria, Okla., Mike Wyrick, of Diamond, Mo., and Danny "Boo" Wyrick and wife, Helen, of Joplin; five daughters, Margret Shelton and husband, Gaylen, of Diamond, Lynn "Sis" Greninger and husband, Leon, of Joplin, Rickey Wyrick and Debbie Harmon, both of Seneca, Mo., and Jerry "Bootie" Flemings and husband, Harold, of Diamond; one brother, Johnny Wyrick and wife, Wilma, of Granby, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Hornet Christian Church with Michael Bains officiating. Interment will follow in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. Pallbearers will be Robbie Wyrick, Richard, Cody and Justin Harmon, Chad Shelton and Robert Wolfe. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Following the graveside, the family will be at Hornet Christian Church.
