JOPLIN, MO —
Jack Jeffers was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Joplin, Mo., to Walter and Grace Jeffers. He spent his early life in the Oak Grove Community in Newton County, Mo. He entered into rest on Oct. 2, 2012, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, at the age of 87 years and 5 days.
Jack served in the United States Army during World War II as a very young soldier. He was stationed in the Netherlands, France, Germany, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia.
He married Delua Johnson on Jan. 3, 1953. To this union, seven children were born, Gretchen Roberts, Jeannie Ewens, Susan Underhill, all of the Kansas City, Mo. area, Jack Wilbert Jeffers (now deceased), Jeff Jeffers, Webb City, Erma Anne Garrison, Tigard, Ore., and Brock Jeffers, Carthage; eight granddaughters, Emily Ewens, Rachel (Garrison) Cutter, Jillian Garrison, Chloe Roberts, Lexi Roberts, Olivia Jeffers, Kesley Jeffers and Kaitlen Jeffers; four grandsons, Andrew Ewens, Samuel Garrison, Kaleb Jeffers and Josiah Jeffers; siblings, Christine Hunt, Ottawa, Kan., Ted Jeffers and Joe Jeffers, both of Joplin, and Don Jeffers, Independence, Mo.; and several extended family members.
Services are planned for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Mike Criswell, Evangelist for the Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will follow in Jackson Cemetery, south of Joplin.
