REEDS SPRINGS, MO — Robert Donald Gibson, Reeds Spring, Mo., son of Elmer and Martha (Herd) Gibson was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Carl Junction, Mo., and departed this life July 22, 2010, in Skaggs Hospital, Branson, Mo., at the age of 85. Robert was united in marriage to Janice Turner on Nov. 24, 1962, and they had made their home in Reeds Spring the past 15 years coming from Joplin. He worked for the First National Bank for 43 years. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and received three Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct medal. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and various civic organizations. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Randolph Gibson; and sister, Patricia Davidson. Survivors include: his wife, Janice, of the home; daughter, Ann Phelps and husband, Ronald, of Joplin; grandson, Robert Phelps; and a host of other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home South, Kimberling City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Joplin Elks Lodge No. 501, 1802 West 26th Street, Joplin, MO 64804.
