JOPLIN, Mo. — Garland Lawson, 92, Joplin, died Dec. 29, 2012, at Spring River Christian Village, following a sudden illness.

Garland was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Cherryvale, Kan. and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Neosho High School in 1938, and served in the Army-Air Corp. Garland worked as general manager for Landis Steel in Picher, Okla. and was a charter member of the Grand Lake Sailing Club.

Garland married Juanita Pearl Burkholder on Nov. 12, 1941, at Neosho and she preceded him in death on April 24, 2007.

He is survived by three sons, Lynn Lawson and wife, Sandra, Joplin, Stanley Lawson and wife, Sheila, Olathe, Kan. and Kenton Lawson and wife, Cherrie, Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie (Corbin) Lawson; a brother, Donald Lawson; and a sister, Katherine Artz..

Services will be Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Chaplain Allen Brintnall will officiate. Interment will be in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery and family will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho on Monday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
