JOPLIN, MO —
Mrs. Mildred J. Wilfley, 91, of Joplin, Mo., departed this life on Monday evening, Dec. 31, 2012, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, after months of declining health.
Mildred entered this life on Jan. 1, 1921, in Joplin, one of 13 children born to the late Thomas S. and Tencil V. (Couffer) Allgood. She was a lifelong area resident of Joplin.
On July 15, 1939, in Joplin, she was united in marriage to Arthur John "Art" Wilfley and to this union two daughters were born.
She retired in 1982, from Safeway Bakery in Joplin, after 29 years of employment. She enjoyed spending time outdoors where her favorite activities were gardening, camping and fishing. She was a member of the Iron Gates Christian Church in Joplin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Art Wilfley on April 17, 1994; a grandson, Michael Kohler; five brothers, Frank, Virgil, Junior, Howard and Harold Allgood; and three sisters, Zoe Stephens, Carolyn Pitter and Flora Stewart.
Mildred is survived by her two daughters, Virginia Bradley and husband, Jack, of Joplin, and Lyndia Kohler, also of Joplin; three grandchildren, Jeannie Stuart and husband, Pat, Mark DeMasters and wife, Teresa and Todd Kohler; six great-grandchildren, Megan Smith, Colton Frencken, Nick Stuart, Brittney DeMasters, Evan Moran and Eli Moran; two sisters, Colleen Black and Mary Lou Hudson, both of Joplin; two brothers, Thomas and Jack Allgood, also of Joplin; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wilfley are at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, with Pastor Dave Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Mark DeMasters, Todd Kohler, Pat Stuart, Colton Frencken, Jack Bradley and Eli Moran. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the time of service in the mortuary chapel.
