NEOSHO, MO —

Elva Dean Thogmartin Hopkins, 80, Neosho, Mo., died Jan. 2, 2013, at the home of her son in Joplin, following a lengthy illness.

Elva Dean was born Jan. 23, 1932, in Neosho, the daughter of Tom and Effie (Hargraves) Thogmartin and was a lifelong area resident. She worked at Granby Manufacturing for eight years, then at Big Smith in Carthage and Neosho, over 25 years. She later worked at Wal-Mart in Neosho, for 11 years, where she was over the fabric department and she helped set up the new Wal-Mart Supercenter. Elva Dean was a member of American Business Women's Association and had served as President; she was a member of the Gingham Girls in Granby, for many years and made many special friendships, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Granby.

She is survived by two children, Randy Hopkins and wife, Mary, Joplin, and Paulette Garren and husband, Jerry, Tremonton, Utah; six grandchildren, Amy and husband, Dave, Trisha and husband, Mark, Ryan and wife, Kim, Megan and husband, Chris, Christopher and Tracie and husband, Clint; 13 great-grandchildren, Payton, Justus, Ali, Madison, Abby, Maizy, Riley, Kennedy, Conor, Alyssa, Charlee Rose, Christopher and Jack; five sisters, NayDean Kuhns, Ila Dean Hicks, Erma Hill, Mary Williams and Carol Branham; and two brothers, Tommy Thogmartin and Melvin Thogmartin. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Junior Hopkins; two sisters, Norma Owens and Gearl Dean Walker; and a brother, Billy Lee Thogmartin.

Services will be Sunday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Dr. Jerry Seigel will officiate. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the funeral home until 3 p.m. The body will be taken for cremation and honorary pallbearers will be Marcus Thogmartin, Rob Thogmartin, Johnny Kuhns, Larry Hicks, Brad Hicks, Scott Hill, Nathan Branham and Matthew Branham. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
