FREDONIA, KS —
Zana Mae Meadows, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2013.
She passed away peacefully at home in Fredonia, Kan., with her family around her.
Zana was born Oct. 29, 1921, to Charles D. and Lula Blanche (Ross) Deal in Elk County, Kan., Liberty Township. She was the third of seven children. The Deal family lived in the southeast Kansas area. Zana graduated from Coyville High School in 1938.
On Jan. 4, 1941, in Independence, Kan., she was united in marriage to Carl Rayness Meadows. To this union, five children were born. The Meadows' celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this week.
Carl went into the Army at the start of World War II. During that time, Zana completed her Normal School and taught in local rural schools. During the summers, she worked at Boeing as a "Rosie Riveter".
After Carl returned from the war, Carl and Zana settled in the Fredonia area. Zana supported her husband in his businesses. She was a faithful member of the Bible Baptist Church in Fredonia. The Meadows' also lived in Joplin, Mo., for 38 years and were members of the Faith Baptist Church. She served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, church pianist and organist.
Zana was a joyful encourager to all who knew her. She enjoyed painting, sewing, quilting, cooking, crafts, bowling at her husband's bowling alley and gardening. Six and a half years ago, she suffered a stroke which incapacitated her, but she always had a positive outlook on life and a smile on her face.
