Phillip R. Lockhart

JOPLIN, MO — Phillip R. Lockhart, age 76, of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Phil was born June 18, 1936, in Joplin, the son of Trew and Barbara Lockhart. He was raised in Alba, Mo., and graduated from Alba High School. Phil was in the Ministry for over 50 years, serving churches in Illinois, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and Missouri. He served the Diamond Grove Christian Church, east of Joplin, for 20 years. Phil also served as a trustee and later president of Artesia Christian College in Artesia, N.M., and served as a trustee for Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City, Okla. Phil was a graduate of Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Ill., and also did graduate work there. He was currently a member of the Diamond Christian Church.

Phil married Sara Hodges Aug. 5, 1958, in Herrin, Ill. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Brent Lockhart, Fort Worth, Texas, and Barry Lockhart, Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Beth Baker and husband, Jeff, Diamond, Mo.; two brothers, Jack Lockhart and wife, Shirley and Jami Lockhart and wife, Dot, all of Fayetteville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandsons and a great-grandchild on the way.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Diamond Christian Church with Mike Wharlow, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Powers Cemetery, east of Diamond. Visitation will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

Memorial contributions are requested to Camp Cyokamo in Alba in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary, of Joplin.
