JOPLIN, MO —
Mary Jane (Linski) Christenson, of Joplin, Mo., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 7, 2013.
She was born on May 19, 1931, in Duluth, Minn. She was the second youngest of 10 children, born to Joseph and Mary Linski.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dean N. Christenson, of Joplin; three children, Allen Christenson, of Neosho, Mo., Susan Knaup, of Columbus, Kan., and Sarah Anderson, of Joplin; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia
Anderson, of Plymouth, Minn.
Mary grew up in Duluth, where she graduated as valedictorian of the 1949 class of Denfield High School.
She met her husband, Dean in 1952, and it was "love at first sight". They were married that same year.
She worked for the Minnesota Power and Light Co. and the Minneapolis Post Office in her early years. She was very active as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served many years as a full time minister.
She found enjoyment working with her husband, who was self-employed and loved outdoor activities such as fishing and camping, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren and many friends.
Mary had a life-long love of classical music, poetry and literature and had the opportunity to have some of her poems published. She was of such a humble and unselfish disposition that most anyone who knew her would say that she was the sweetest person they ever knew.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Joplin West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1201 South Schifferdecker, Joplin.
