JOPLIN, MO —

Byrl E. Herndon, age 69, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, following an illness.

Byrl was born on Nov. 8, 1943, in Chanute, Kan., the son of the late Ira and Geneva (Reed) Herndon. He worked as a carpet installer all over the four state area for many years before illness forced him to retire in 1997.

He married Sharon Cole on April 12, 1985, she survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Tommy Herndon and Vincent Herndon, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Major Kenneth Herndon and his wife, Carrie, of USAG Hohenfels, Germany; one daughter, Kelly Hubbard and one stepdaughter, Renee Dean, both of Joplin; one brother, Dean Herndon and his wife, Daisy, of Neck City, Mo.; three sisters, Vera Tidd and her husband, Herb, Donna Mitchell and Patsy Smith, all of Joplin; and four grandchildren. Along with his parents, Byrl was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Herndon; four sisters, Ima Jean Beckley, Rosie McCaine, Peggy Badart and Cathy West; and one granddaughter, Amy Herndon.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel, Pastor Larry Griffin, will officiate. Burial will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
