Homer D. Bristow

COLUMBUS, Kan. — Homer Dale Bristow, 71, of Columbus, Kan., passed away Thursday Jan. 17, 2013, at his home in Columbus.

He was born Sept.12, 1941, in Batesville, Ark., the son of Charles Homer and Thelma (Ivy) Bristow. He lived in the Columbus area most of his life, and attended Columbus schools.

Homer was a veteran serving his country in the United States Army.

He married Laura Tillman on Dec. 16, 1966, in Columbus, she survives.

Homer worked for the City of Columbus and was a fireman for a number of years, and then worked for Ace Electric where he remained until his retirement. Homer was best known as the newspaper writer of the popular column Just Thinkin. He was a longtime member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Laura; a son, Michael J. Bristow, of Wichita, Kan.; his mother, Thelma Bristow, of Columbus; four sisters, Brenda Bunney, Karen Logrosso, Saundra Carson and Phyllis Frasier all, of Columbus; two grandchildren, A.J. Bristow and Kayla Kirk; and two great-grandchildren, Tatum and Tyler Kirk. He was preceded in death by his father; and a son, Jackie Dale Bristow.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23,  at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus with Reverend Dennis Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date in the Columbus City Cemetery.
