CARTERVILLE, MO —
Clarence E. Danner, age 78, from Carterville, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at his home.
He was born on June 14, 1934, to John Danner and Rose Mulkey Danner in Macon, Mo. Clarence was the owner of the Carterville Garage for 51 years, a United States Air Force Veteran and a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Carthage. He started racing cars in 1962, and raced until 2004, at the age of 70. Clarence was very proud to be the first racer in the area to have an automatic transmission and power steering in his car.
He married Elsie Burns Danner on Feb. 28, 1957, in Rockville, Md. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2012.
Clarence was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Floyd and Ervin Danner; six sisters, Louise Taylor, Loreen Oliver, Loretta Thompson, Lula Faye Turnball, Lila Johnson and Shirley Brown. He is survived by daughters, Victoria Lynn Saul Furlow, of Carterville, and Roseann Gizmondy, of Miami, Fla., Shirley Ann Maynard and husband, Dave, of Oronogo; sons, Ralph E. Danner and wife, Theresia, of Carterville, Mark A. Danner, of Carterville, Darren A. Danner and wife, Debbie, of Carterville, and C. Eric Danner, of Carterville; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rosalee Belk, of Duenweg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, with Rev. Jim Williams officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment and military rites will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefer memorial donations to the Veteran's Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark. in his memory.
Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
