CARL JUNCTION, Mo. —
Herschel Eugene Strait, age 87, of Carl Junction, passed away at 10:18 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital after a short illness.
Born July 8, 1925, in Carl Junction, he was the son of the late Ellis O. Strait and Sylvia L. Hildreth Strait. He lived much of his adult life in Southeast Kansas, where he owned and operated several restaurants. He was also a commercial construction supervisor and member of the Carpenters Union, Local 311 in Joplin. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
On July 6, 1973, he married Aiko (Peggy) Inouye in Carl Junction. She survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Steven Stone, of Riverton, Kan., David Stone and Patrick Stone, both of Joplin; three sisters, Helen Tucker and husband, Lavern, Margaret (Marty) Hall and Bobbie Skoglund, all of Carl Junction; one brother, Leonard Strait and wife, Madeline; 10 grandchildren;nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; a brother, Henry Strait; and a sister, Twyla Williams, preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Carl Junction Cemetery with Rev. Bob Simon officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
