OLATHE, KS —
Mary Margaret Grove was born on a cloudy Tuesday morning, Jan. 24, 1995. Her courageous and hard fought battle with pulmonary hypertension ended on a beautiful spring-like morning, Jan. 28, 2013.
Mary filled every day of her 18 years with activity. She was a senior at her much beloved KSD (Kansas School for the Deaf) and had attended there since she was 4 years old. She was currently the Student Body President, the Class of 2013 President, she served as the volleyball manager, was active in drama class and had been a football homecoming candidate. Mary was recently named a Kansas Honor Scholar (top 10% of her class). She was a member of the KSD Academic Bowl Team and just returned from a competition in Salt Lake City, where her team took third place and qualified for nationals in Washington D.C. Mary had previously won an Optimist Scholarship.
Mary Margaret is survived by her parents, Mike and Kelly Grove and sisters, Cecelia and Katherine, all of Olathe, Kan; grandparents, Rick and Donna Grove, Pete and Sue Carlton and great-grandmother, Freda Bailey, all of Carthage, Mo., and great-grandfather, Don Moore, of Carl Junction, Mo.; many aunts, uncles and 12 first cousins. She was preceded in death by her uncle, Erick Grove; great-grandparents, Nonie and Cudie Carlton, Papa Bailey, Grandma and Grandpa Grove and Grandma Moore.
Mary had many loves: old movies, pictures, her home and family. She especially loved KSD with every ounce of her being. She was a strong advocate for Deaf Culture and ASL. Mary's life will continue in a new form through her generous donation of organ, bone and tissue.
The Rosary will be prayed on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1. Both will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Olathe.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Catherine Simon MD, Helen Malloy RN, Dr. Tim Williamson MD and Jocelyn Havener RN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KSD.
Lord, Grant eternal rest unto her and may the perpetual light shine upon her.
