JOPLIN, Mo. — John Boyd was born to the union of the late Victor and Luebirda Hale Boyd in Emelle, Ala. on Oct. 22, 1930.

He relocated to Joplin, Mo., in 1961. He was employed with International Paper, Inc. for 32 years. He retired on Jan. 1, 1996.

He made transition into eternal rest on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012,  at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brenda Boyd; six sisters, Alberta Boyd, Fannie Robinson, Marjorie Fishback, Creamae Mayfield, Luebirda Boyd and Elvira Windham; and special friend, Wilma Shannon.

Memories of love will be cherished by two daughters, Johnnie (Larry) Barber, York, Ala., Sally Boyd, Emelle, Ala.; one son, Kevin Singleton, Joplin; three stepdaughters, Camilla Smith, Jacqui Shannon, Yvelda Shannon, all of Joplin; six grandchildren, Johnny (Trichelle) Boyd, Epes, Alabama, Kimberly Boyd, Jacqueline Barber, Raven Barber, all of York, Ala., Justin Boyd, Emelle, Ala., Kae Jae Singleton, Joplin; three step-grandchildren, Natasha Shannon, Zentrell Shannon, James Parker, all of Joplin; four great-grandchildren; three step-great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.

Services are planned for Monday at 1 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
