Richard L. "Dick" Johnson

JOPLIN, MO —  

Richard L. "Dick" Johnson, age 86, of Joplin, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012,  at Freeman West Hospital after an illness.

Dick was born Feb. 2, 1926, to the late Lloyd M. Johnson and Geneva Scott Johnson and had lived in Joplin most of his life.

Dick married Bettye Jo Weeks June 10, 1950, in Bentonville, Ark. She preceded him in death June 23, 2003.

His son, Mike Johnson, also preceded him in death in 2011.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for the former Fleming I.G.A. Foods for several years, retiring in 1986. Dick was a 59 year member of the Fellowship Lodge No. 345 AF&AM and a 56-year member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Joplin.

Dick is survived by two daughters, Janet Messner and her husband, Mike and Marcy Massie and her husband, Bill, all of Joplin; four grandchildren, Misha Johnson, of Joplin, Kelsey, Dylan and Bailey Johnson, all of Carl Junction; one great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Griffberg, of Joplin; a sister, Kay Egbert, of the state of California; two nieces; and two nephews.

Memorial services for Dick will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Bob Martin officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family request that memorial contribution be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the mortuary.
