CARL JUNCTION, MO —

Bessie P. Shira, age 93, of Carl Junction, Mo., passed away at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, following a lengthy illness.

Bessie was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Asbury, Mo., to Charles and Vera (Edwards) Horn.

She married Everett Shira on March 24, 1940, in Carl Junction. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2007.

Bessie "Blondie" co-owned and managed several business in the area, including Blondie's Drive In, Carl Junction, from 1948 to 1954, and the 4 State Raceway Go Kart Track, Joplin, Mo., from 1961 to 1982. She attended the Nazarene Church of Carl Junction.

She is survived by a son-in-law, Larry Shaw; three grandchildren, Richard Shaw and wife, Terri, Georgia, Dawn Dixon and husband, Ray, Missouri, and Sabrina Williams and husband, Marvin, California; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae Lassiter and Dixie Hathcock; one sister-in-law, Freida Horn; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by an infant son in 1942; a daughter, Marilyn Shaw on Nov. 19, 2006; and two brothers, James and Eugene Horn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary with Pastor Clair Uitts officiating. Burial will follow in the Carl Junction Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Nov. 25, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the Carl Junction Fire Department or the Nazarene Church, Carl Junction.     

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
