WEBB CITY, Mo. —
Howard C. "Howdy" Moreland, age 59, of Webb City, Mo., passed away on Saturday Nov. 24, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, following a long battle with cancer.
Howard was born on June 24, 1953, in Monterey Park, Calif., the son of the late Howard L. and Lola Ione (Berry) Moreland.
He married Cheryl Powelson on Aug. 14, 1976, in Foley, Mo. Together they made their home in the Webb City area raising their family. Howard worked as a foreman for Eagle Picher, retiring in 2005, due to declining health. He was a member of Christs Church of Oronogo. He enjoyed baseball, hunting, riding his tractor, gardening, and taking care of his yard. Howard loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Moreland, Webb City, Mo.; two sons, Dustin Moreland and wife, Amber, Joplin, and Shane Moreland, Webb City, Mo.; two sisters, Carole Clemons and husband, John, Joplin, Mo., and Marie Cottom and husband, John, Seattle, Wash.; and two grandchildren, Kaden and Sophia Moreland.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hedge-Lewis Funeral home. Pastor Duaine Blackmore will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Webb City Schools Bright Futures.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home.
