SPRINGFIELD, MO —
Ruth Lillian Houston Newman, age 89, Springfield, Mo., formerly of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Elfindale Manor in Springfield.
Ruth was born March 10, 1923, in Sarcoxie, Mo., daughter of the late Hugh Houston and Laveta Carnes Houston. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived to take care of her family. She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church for over 60 years.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James Newman, who died Nov. 26, 2008; her two sons, Jimmy Newman and Bobby Newman; and a sister, Betty Goodman.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Vicki Baker and husband, Keith, of Lenexa, Kan., Melissa Sanford and husband, David, of Springfield, Suzanne Panos, of Chicago, Ill., Kelley Miller and husband, Don, of Carl Junction, Mo., and Michael Newman, of Joplin; great-grandchildren, Drew, Katie, Miranda, McKenzie, Mallory, Alexandra and Addison; a brother, Lonnie Houston, of Sarcoxie; and a daughter-in-law, Pat Newman, of Joplin.
Graveside services will be Friday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. John Swadley officiating. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary from 2 p.m. until service time on Friday.
