The Joplin Globe
JOPLIN, MO —
It was a day filled with happiness and joy May 17, 1939, when Gloria Marie Moffet was born to her parents, Raymond Levi Moffet and Elsie Ellen Cox Moffet in their home at the Filmore Bridge area in Joplin, Mo. Gloria was an only child and one of the closet descendant relatives of E.R. Moffet, first mayor of Joplin.
Another happy and joyful day was the day Gloria was born into the family of God and accepted his son, Jesus Christ, to be the Lord and Savior of her life. Even the angels of heaven rejoiced on that day as plans began for her heavenly arrival, which took place that Thursday morning, Nov. 29, 2012, about 8 a.m., when Gloria left this life to move to her heavenly mansion Jesus promised to her and to all those who will be faithful to his calling.
Gloria attended the McClelland School where she participated in many activities.
On March 11, 1948, Gloria married John Bobby Dow Booe in Joplin. To this union were born two children, one daughter, Diana Marie and one son, Bobby Michael. Bob preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1974, at the age of 45.
Gloria was employed at LaBarge for 29 years, retiring in 1993. From this employment, she met and married her present husband, George Ivan Adams, on July 6, 1976. He presides at their Joplin residence and remains one of the last Purple Heart recipients from World War II. During their marriage they enjoyed extensive travel and membership in the VFW.
They also enjoyed holidays, birthdays and family celebrations. Her family and friends and their many visits kept her happy and content during her final days. Gloria was an outstanding Christian and church woman and she loved her family and friends.
During her lifetime she joined the church of her choice and worked hard to serve the church and community. Her church membership consisted of the First Gospel Workers Church where her father-in-law, the late Rev. Dow Booe, was the pastor. She served the church as Sunday school teacher and vacation bible school leader. She was a lifetime member of this church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Bob.
Gloria is survived by George her present husband; her daughter, Diana Drake; and her son, Mike Booe and wife, Donna. Also, she is survived by her grandchildren, Sophia Acevedo, of Carterville, Mo., Brandon Drake, of St. Louis, Mo., Nick Booe, of Joplin, and Michelle Booe Johnson, also of Joplin; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Gloria loved each and every member of her family. Each member of her family is her life living on. Besides her family, Gloria has left a large circle of friends. Heaven will be brightened by her angelic smile.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Parker Chapel with Pastor Bobby Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Nick Booe, Brandon Drake, Raymond Acevedo, Jamie Johnson, Jacob and Cory Rushing.
