Mildred L. Beck

JOPLIN, MO —

Mildred Lorene Peters Beck, age 80, of Joplin, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Carl Junction, following a short illness.

Born Aug. 2, 1932, in Joplin, she was the daughter of the late George Daniel Peters and Ethel Lea Montgomery Peters. Mildred was a lifetime Joplin resident and graduated from Joplin High School and Draughon Business College. In her early years, she was an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. For many years she was a waitress at Keller's. She then worked for Clark's clothing store. Mildred then worked for Petro Truck Stop and retired from the Sleep Inn Motel. She was also a Tupperware representative.

Mildred was a faithful member of Byers Avenue United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included embroidery and fishing on Spring River with her late husband.

On May 2, 1954, she married Earl Eugene "Gene" Beck in Joplin. He preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 2001.

She was also preceded by four siblings, Flora Sinnard, Roy and Jackie Peters and Carolyn Felkins.

Survivors include a son, Russ Beck and wife, Debbie, of Carl Junction; three daughters, Diana Berry, of Carl Junction, Sherry Block and husband, Walter, of Carthage, Mo., and Stephanie Denham and husband, Dean, of Carl Junction; one brother, Harold Peters and wife, Esther, of Springfield, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Byers Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Max Raney and Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Family serving as pallbearers will be Bryan and Marty Block, Travis and Tyler Beck, Josh Denham and David Eads. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary.
