PINEVILLE, MO —
Michael Joseph Russell, age 65, passed away on Dec. 2, 2012, at 7 p.m.
Mike was born to Joe and Helen Russell on March 22, 1947. Although he battled health complications and suffered a stroke in early 2012, his life was full of his passionate endeavors and family and lifelong friends who loved him dearly.
He was a lifetime resident of Joplin and the surrounding area and graduated from Joplin High School with the Class of 1965, who in recent years resided in McDonald County near his beloved Elk River, living in his log cabin on the bluff. Mike was well known in the car sales industry in Joplin and the surrounding areas. Mike's passion for cars began early on when he purchased his 1959 Corvette at the age of 17. He also loved the water, evident by the fact that he chose to live near the river. He was a self taught sailor and throughout his life owned sailboats, which he sailed around Grand Lake. He was also known as a great cook and could often be found down on the river or at his house smoking meat or cooking whatever else would be needed for river festivities.
Mike was well loved by all that knew him and through his charismatic personality and sense of humor, he touched everyone's lives.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Russell; and his mother, Helen Francis Talbott Russell.
Survivors include his children, Jodie M. (Russell) Warren, Washington, D.C., and Amy D. (Russell) Anderson and son-in-law, Anthony Anderson, Warner Robins, Ga., and Michael Joseph Russell Jr., Goodman, Mo.; four grandchildren, Tayton Russell, Chloe Russell, Catherine Warren and AJ Anderson; one great-grandchild, Jayden Russell; his aunt, Betty Corbin, Joplin, Mo.; cousins, John and Carol Buck, Joplin, Richard and Connie Cole, Joplin, Dennis and Donna Bechhold, state of Texas, Jim and Janice Tate, Joplin, Mary Lee Keeling, state of Texas, Judy Nail, Columbus, Ga., and Jacque and Victoria Kingsland, Atlanta, Ga.; as well as many wonderful friends who have been part of his family, whether he has known them for his entire life or the last few years.
Visitation will be held at Parker Mortuary on Friday, Dec. 7, from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral will take place at Parker Mortuary on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. with graveside services following at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in the name of Michael Russell to the Organ Transplant Services Fund at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, care of Parker Mortuary, 1502 South Joplin Street, Joplin, MO 64804.
The family invites all to come to Betty Corbin's home at 1004 East 28th Street, following the service to visit with the family.
