BETHALTO, IL —
Michael Frank Birsner, of Bethalto, Ill., passed away Dec. 4, 2012.
Mike was born Aug. 21, 1950, in Carthage, Mo., to Dr. Frank H. and Mary Birsner. Mike attended Carthage schools and graduated from McAuley High School in 1968, and also studied at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.
In May of 1977, Mike married Marsha Brown, of Belleville, Ill., and to this union a son, Andrew Michael, was born in 1982.
Mike was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and St. Louis Rams fan and he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and being with family and friends. Mike also had a little known love of the opera. Anyone who knew Mike appreciated his incredible sense of humor, his ability to make people laugh and he never knew a stranger.
For many years, Mike was very active in the Alton Exchange Club and was named Exchange Member of the Year. Mike could not do enough for others less fortunate and devoted endless hours to his work with the Exchange Club.
Mike was the organizer for a yearly golf tournament in memory of his grandmother, Josephine Diekemper, which was attended by many of Mike's 45 cousins, cousins-in-law, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. This tournament was a tribute to Mike's great love of his family.
Surviving Mike are Marsha; son, Andy; and a most special delight in his life, grandson, Owen. Additional survivors include his brother, John (Jan) Birsner, of Edmond, Okla.; sisters, Janet (Richard) Stibor, of Omaha, Neb., Barbara (Reggie) Graue, of Carthage, and Rebecca (Martin) Reynolds, of Edmond; aunts and uncles; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a wealth of friends.
Tentative memorial services are being planned.
